- [Instructor] Platform as a Service, or PaaS, is yet another cloud computing service model. With PaaS what we're really talking about are IT services in the cloud, so accessible over a network, but above and beyond the operating system. Because if you're deploying a virtual machine in the cloud, whether it's running Linux or Windows, that's really considered Infrastructure as a Service, or IaaS, if you have full management control of that virtual machine. So, we're talking with PaaS a step beyond that. PaaS would be of interest to database administrators that might want to deploy varying types of database solutions in the cloud without having to provision the underlying virtual machine and database software.
