- [Instructor] Amazon RDS, or Relational Database Service, is a managed database service in the AWS cloud. Being a managed service, AWS takes care of the software, including patching, backups, failure detection, and recovery, while the customer's responsible for managing the data that goes into the database. As you know, a database is central to any application or system, therefore it is important to monitor it for maintaining reliability, availability, and performance. You can use Amazon CloudWatch, an AWS service, to monitor the performance and health of a database instance.
