User-defined cost allocation tags

- In addition to the AWS generate attacks for cost allocation purposes you can also configure user-defined tags. After creating these tags and applying them to your resources. You can activate them in the billing and cost management console for cost allocation tracking. To activate user defined tax for cost allocation purposes, log into your AWS Management Console using your management account. Click your display name in the upper right corner. And then click, 'my billing dashboard'. On the left navigation pane, click cost allocation tags. Under user defined cost allocation tags, you will see tags that you've already applied to your resources. Select the required tags, and click activate. Click activate again. The message confirms that the tags have been activated. While cost allocation tags are managed from the billing management console, AWS recommends using the tag editor service for creating and applying user defined tax to resources. It provides a central unified way to create and manage user defined tags. Just like AWS generated tags, User-defined tags also have some restrictions. AWS prefixes user-defined tags with the user. You should use a tag key only ones for each resource. If you use the same key twice, the service will reject your request. Application of tax cannot be backdated. This means that tags only start appearing on your cost allocation report after you apply them. And don't appear on earlier reports. Here's an example of a report that has been populated with user-defined tags. Here, you only see the columns that contain the user defined tags. I've hidden the other columns for clarity. As we've seen user defined tags add the required business context and make it easy to track costs and align them with resource usage.
