Virtualization and the cloud
- [Instructor] When it comes to IT computing, virtualization is not new. However, it is absolutely required by cloud computing. There are virtual machines running somewhere when you use cloud services. So virtual machines are called instances and they run cloud workloads such as websites or it could be an internal payroll application or it could be some kind of batch process. Now, you have the option as a cloud customer of deploying virtual machines yourself manually where you have full control but in other cases when it comes to managed services or serverless computing, this means that the cloud service provider is responsible for deploying and managing the underlying virtual machine. An example of this would be if you want to deploy a MySQL database server in the cloud as a managed service. You don't have to worry about deploying the underlying virtual machine and installing the database software. That's handled already.…
