- [Voiceover] Let's take a very quick look at how you handle audio files. So if we go file, import, import to library, and in the exercise folder in chapter two, you should find a simple SFX wave file, let's open that. And I'm gonna just pull the library panel up a bit. So there it is, and you can see these three waveforms. (air whooshes) (hissing) (breath puffs) And surprise, surprise, that's me making silly noises here in the booth.
So let's see how we apply these. We could apply them on the outer timeline here, quite doable, or we can put them inside, but if we put them on the inside track, you won't hear them. So, let's put them on the outside track, where we kind of assemble and edit the entire thing. So I'm gonna drag the audio file, the waveform here, and let's just zoom out so we can see the whole thing. So, we can make this picture pretty small, we don't need a big picture for this. So we can also I think make this track look a little bigger, layer height 200, now you can begin to see the waveform.
That's handy. So right now, we have (air whooshes), I want that to line up with the entry of the alien. So we just grab this and slide it forward. (air whooshes) And it sounds a bit loud, so let's edit that in the Properties panel. One more thing to note, see where it says Sync Event? Make it Stream, it's very important. Otherwise you find you'll have a very hard time playing it in sequence with the animation. And so here, with this pencil tool, we can then adjust the overall level. That's a very simple leveling tool for the audio.
If you need more punch you can just click here, and then you can fade in by doing this. So I think for my purposes, this is probably fine, let's (air whooshes) listen to that. And let's click okay. (air whooshes) So it's still slow. We might crop it a bit here at the beginning, let's go back here and just bring this forward, and we can start it maybe there.
And you see the entire wave move back. (air whooshes) So one thing that we might do that'll help as well, given that he's coming in depth, see I'm making all these extra points by mistake, let's just pull them off to the left and they disappear. So what I want to do is to make the (chuckles) it's very sensitive, look at that. Far too sensitive, let's try that. (air whooshes) So now we've got a slight ease into the audio as well.
(air whooshes) so we want to end it here, too, because there's no reason for all this background crud here, but we do have other audio aspects here that I want to use. So at this point I'm going to right-click and go split audio, this is a new feature added, and this is a really lovely one. There we go. So now I can drag this forward to about here, and now we can proceed to worry about this. (air whooshes) And let's hit F7 just to go to silence.
And if you feel like the audio is just clicking off very hard there, I think we can mess with that a bit. Now, bearing in mind that all these edits are going to edit all three of our tracks, so we have to be careful here, so when I make these new points here, that I add another there, so when I put a point here, and fade out, I don't fade out everything else that follows. I hope that makes sense. We can just keep doing these taper offs, so now we shouldn't get that nasty click.
(air whooshes) And if it's still feeling a little abrupt, we can just pull this in a bit. (air whooshes) (hissing) So let's now fine-tune this guy. One more thing to remember is we have a third audio, somewhere down here, so I'm just gonna extend the exposure a little bit, right-click here and go split audio. Then we can pull that back to about there, and then I want to get rid of these empty frames, right-click and go remove frames.
Lovely. So now we have, (hissing) (air puffing) There. (hissing) (air puffing) so we want to make sure that hick sound is really exactly where we want it. And when I begin to edit this one to crop it shorter, we have to move forward, be very careful, because you see this gray area? You might think this waveform is the (hissing) sound that's burning the rockets, no, that's the first of the three. This is one big long track with three waveforms on it, and we are going to now pull in this instance to here.
And that changes this one. (hissing) (air puffing) And I also want to do the same thing here, let's get this (air puffing) right at the beginning. And again, go forward, forward, forward, until we get to there, we can also zoom out with this magnifying glass, if you're doing too much scrubbing. Click OK. (hissing) (air puffing) (air whooshing) (hissing) (air puffing) So, the worst foley sound effect you've ever heard in your life, that you will ever hear in your life, but they show you how to apply an audio track, and if some client is mean enough to give you an audio track with all three or seven or 20 versions of the audio on one big, long wave file, at the very least, even if you're not an audio wizard, you're gonna be able to cut them up inside this program and then edit them as you need.
