- So let's take a look at how to create symbols. And at the moment we have our reference layer on the stage, if I just drag it around, you can see that. So let's undo those moves, and let's make this thing into a symbol because right now it's just a piece of reference art, a PNG file. Click on that, hit F8, and be sure that this little pivot position tool is right in the middle. We're gonna call this one scene.010, and make sure it's set to graphic, not movie clip, and click OK. And now it has converted the instance on the stage into this little symbol here, scene 10. And if in any doubt, click off into this area here. Click on this in Properties panel, you can see I'm looking at Instance of scene.010. So let's tunnel into scene.010. I can double click on it on the stage, or I can click on it in the library. If I click on it on the stage, you see this really weird shaded out thing where we're clearly working next to the outer stage area, or we can just double click on the scene inside…
