Illustrative gestures
- An illustrative gesture is any gesture that looks like the thing that the character is trying to describe. If somebody was saying that, "Oh I just flew in this morning, and oh, "the plane was a little shaky, you know." Or, they're trying to describe something where they're stirring a pot. These are the types of gestures that help convey an idea really clearly. And we have to be careful not to do too many at the same time. That's where it gets to be a little bit more over, overdone. The acid test for any animated scene is to turn down the dialogue, and look at it without anything playing to see if it reads without any accompanying dialogue. This is a great of example of you knowing what the character is doing just by seeing what the gesture is. Let's take a look at it. Okay. So, you could see that that video clip is very clear.
