Line of action/reversals

- In this chapter, I'm going to show you heuristics. That's a very fancy word for a simple idea, rules of thumb, lots and lots of little, very simple ideas that all have to work together so that the drawing looks good and it isn't let down in some way. And the first of these rules of thumb is at the line of action. And here I've sketched the line of action in red. You can see it on the left, and basically it's an imaginary line from the top of the head to the base of the feet. And it shows the overall pose and attitude and the maximum flex of the character. And a strong line of action can really help you make a strong pose. And a weak line of action may often lead to a weak pose. Not always, but it's one of these things that you have to watch out for. So let's take a look at the next one. So this line of action, as you can see, isn't as dramatic as the previous one. It's much more vertical, much more subdued. But we've still got a good, strong pose around it. And it's the load-bearing…
