- Now one of the very exciting things about Ansible that you may have heard is that it's free. It's open source software that is free but then you may be a bit confused if you've heard that Ansible was purchased by Red Hat. Well, all of that is true and let's explain as we look at the history of Ansible. So the year was 2012 and Michael DeHaan released Ansible to the world and this approach that Michael took was very very interesting because what he saw was that himself and many people like him were creating scripts that would automate the infrastructure and the servers and the IT stuff all around them. So Michael wanted to take an approach to systems management and configuration management and even infrastructure creation through DevOps that would be script friendly and they could even leverage existing scripts that had already been written. So Ansible was created to do this and sure enough in 2015 Red Hat purchased…
