Where is Apache's configuration?
We've been discovering how to manage the Apache service, but so far all the operations have been at a very high level. In this chapter, we're going to go deeper and explore how Apache's configured and where that configuration is. With that knowledge, we'll learn how to make changes to the config in multiple ways, both server wide and at a directory level. Finally, we'll learn how to add and remove major components from the server. Let's start with the configuration. First of all, I recommend adding this bookmark. This is the primary documentation that describes how to configure Apache. Apache's configuration is stored in plain text files. The primary configuration file is typically named httpd.conf. And the location is set at compilation time. It's possible to override the configuration location when starting the servers, but that's less common.
