When we consider the challenges associated with the geo-spacial data collection, there are a few aspects you need to plan for to successfully complete your project. Time and cost, are the variables we are most interested in and there are several sub-components to each I will discuss. In the planning process, time is one of the key considerations. You can think of time, as not only including the total amount of time it take to complete the data collection, but also the cost in person hours to collect it. Time takes on a variety of forms because, of the interconnectedness of time to machines via persons. Although difficult to plan for, the malfunction of machines in the data collection process always increases the total time. Planning for computer failures, GPS issues, required software updates, IT schedules for maintenance, and personnel schedules, all play key fixtures in the total time calculation.
