Brief history of VDC or BIM in AEC

- [Instructor] BIM or Building Information Modeling or Virtual Design and Construction, VDC, has been around for a long time. And other applications came online in the early 2000s. ArchiCAD actually started in the early '80s. But all these applications are founded in kind of a parametric modeling theory, and they, in a lot of ways, originated from the aerospace industry, where complex models had to be tested in multiple different dimensions. Information had to be shared with multiple different parties. And so that's where ArchiCAD kind of picked up and brought it to the AEC industry. And so ArchiCAD and other applications out there have been around for close to 40 years in some instances, and at least 20 years for the major application vendors.
