Layers

- So let's talk about layers. Layers is found under options and layers. And so, layers all objects except for doors and windows can exist on layers. So, if we look at these layers, we have this little lock command which allows the layer to be locked. And it won't be able to be adjusted. We have this eyeball, which can be turned on and off. And then we also have this wire frame mode or a solid mode. Which allows the object to be represented in a wire frame mode in 3D. Or as a solid object in 3D. We also have this layer intersection combo, which is a number. And then we have the name of the layer. And then we have an extension. So, let's start with this layer intersection combo. So, as you can see when I select this layer in the layer combination. Which represents all of the different layers that are either on or off. For a specific layer combination, it has an intersection combo. So, if we've got a floor plan, we can see that certain layers have different intersection combinations. And, when a layer has a different intersection combination. That layer won't interact with another layer that's on a different intersection combo. And so, we'll get into this just a little bit later. And then you have the layer name. Which can be any name that you want to give it. And then the extension. So, layer combinations represent all the layers that are on. So, if you click up here, you can see what layers are on. And if you go to the bottom, you can see what layers are off. So, if we click through this, certain layers are turned on for certain layer combinations. So, that you can turn on and off information by selecting this combination. And, you will have also the ability to customize all of the information within here. So say for instance, I want my interior walls and my exterior walls to be on the same layer combination, which means they will interact. Then, I can change this number to two and then I can push update. And you can see it changes it here. So, now these layers that are selected, which is the wall interior. And any of the layer combinations that are same will interact with one another. So, let's see what that looks like in plan view. So, if we push, okay. So now we have these walls and these walls are interior and exterior walls. So, if I look in here, I can see what layers are on and what layers are off. I can change the layers by selecting this, and putting the object on a different layer. Then I can also change the layer combination by going over to my quick options and changing what's visible and not visible through the layer combination on the side here. So, let's say we were working on site plans. And we'll go to architectural site plans. So, this information is on. And, now if we go to another one and we'll see here. And we go to details. So, these layers are on. So let me show you what that looks like in a working file. So here, I have a floor plan, and if I look at my layers by pushing control L or command L. I can see that this is the floor plan layer. And if I click up here, it sorts it by what's on and off. And so I can see here that I have, wall exterior and wall interior on. Now, let's look at what layers if I change it to a site plan. And you could see that I have, other layers that are on and off. And also the layer combinations have changed. So, let's see what that looks like when I change and select site plan. So, site plan selected. And you can see it's changed, it's turned off the interior walls and the exterior walls. Or the interior walls only. And it's left other information that wasn't previously visible on. So, now let me change it back to floor plan. And you could see how quickly it can change the information and show what's on and off. So that's a quick overview of layers. And you can see within Archicad, that it's given you out of the box in its template certain options of what is on and off. So, if you find yourself needing to turn certain things on certain things off. You just go over to those layers. And if you wanted to see furniture in the floor plan, you can click on this and then you would just push update. And if you want to click on more or show more, you can select multiples and turn them on. And since floor plan is still selected, I can push update. And as soon as I do that, it will update that information. So that's a quick overview of the layers.
