Blocking in base colors: Sky

Blocking in base colors: Sky

(quiet piano music) - The first thing that I'm going to do is just block in some of the light blue of the sky. I've just dipped my brush into a little bit of water, and this is a size 12 Rosemary and Co. classic short flat. When there's little cloud formations like in the top of the sky, I can just jump down to the other slightly darker tone that we mixed. When the paints are both wet together, they'll just blend in nicely. It's a bit warmer at this corner on the right hand side, so I'm just going to dilute the paint with a little bit of water, and what that will help to do is get some of this warm underpainting showing through. Here where we've got the texture underneath, that's going to be so nice for putting on that darker shade. It just adds that interest to it, just purely from the texture that we've added previously. Here I'm just swapping to a size six, still a classic short flat. As I'm working down the tone, notice how I'm keeping some of the color on this right hand side…
