Doubling lead vocals

- Adding an exact double of a lead vocal is a time tested technique that's an effective way to make a lead vocal stronger, less pitchy, and add a little more texture. Let's talk about how we can achieve this in our vocal recording, as well as some pitfalls to avoid. One thing you want to avoid when recording a double is the idea that you're being sung to by two people, or even worse, the same person at a different time. On the contrary, the idea is to give the impression of one voice, but with a little more texture and something interesting going on with the sound. You want the timing and phrasing to be as exact as possible, and for that reason, it's helpful as a pre-production measure to have the vocalist listen and possibly even study the original vocal performance to get the phrasing just right on the double.
