Acoustic instruments like the guitar need space to resonate, breathe, and project, so they rarely respond well to extreme close miking. In this video we are going to look at a tried and true way to record the acoustic guitar. While it might seem that the best place to mike the guitar is at the sound hole, you'll find that the sound is generally too bassy from only that area. (music playing) A nice combination of high and low frequencies usually comes from somewhere around where the neck and the body join together, but this position varies from instrument to instrument. (music playing) Place the mic about a foot away from where the neck meets the body perpendicular to the finger board. (music playing) Once again, by moving the mic slightly we can change the sound of the recording, for more low end, move the mic down slightly towards the sound hole. For more room ambience, move the mic back a foot. (music playing) Likewise, the type of microphone used to record an acoustic is critical…
