Adding power with stereo parallel compression

Adding power with stereo parallel compression
- The way I normally work with stereo parallel compression in my DAW, is I set up a pre-fade send, I bring it back into the mix on a stereo fader with the with the compressor on the insert. On a console, it's slightly more complicated. I've got a stereo send up here on the stereo cue, but I've had to jump through a few hoops so you can hear it by itself, so, I'm gonna get a balance into that compressor, and let's just see what happens, and then I'll have to push a whole bunch of buttons so we can hear it with the rest of the mix, so bear with me. (single drum beat) (drum beats build and intensify) For the purposes of demonstration, I'm starting by soloing the returns at this parallel compressor so you can hear exactly what's going on, and we can hear exactly the blend that's going in. Oftentimes when I'm mixing, I'll push up that return and listen with the entire kit or sometimes the entire mix, and just push things into it to compress them and see how it affects the overall balance…
