Changing a drum head
- We know drum heads wear out, it's an expendable. We see drummers when they play live, they get beat up, they get dents in them, and it would seem to me that the tone is gonna be gone from the head at that point. So, at what point do you change them? And what is involved in that? What are some of the pitfalls and things to look out for? - What I recommend is that you put fresh heads on either the day before the session or the morning of the session, because it's really a drag to get everything going, and then you're halfway through the day, and all of a sudden you gotta change heads. Now, not only is it gonna take time to change the heads, but then you're gonna have to get the drum sounding good again and hopefully similar to what you had before, because we had a good thing going before, we don't wanna change it up in the middle of the stream. So, what I try to do is put on fresh heads to begin with, and hopefully they'll last through the day. I have some clients that, they mess up a…
