Checking phase before building the mix

- So now that I've listened to the song and decided what direction the drums are gonna go in, I'm gonna dive into a little bit of detail on the individual tracks to make sure that anything I do going forward is all gonna work, and that is, we're gonna check the phase of each of the tracks against the other ones. When I recorded these tracks, I checked the polarity of each microphone all the way through the recording chain. It's a very crucial thing to do when recording, and so I'm fairly confident these will all sound good, and all be in phase together. Now, when you're checking phase, with a stereo pair, if it's out of phase, it's gonna make your head sort of go sideways because it's gonna sound inside out. With mono mic's and with mic's that have a near and far component, you'll notice bottom end build-up or subtraction when things are in phase or out of phase, and you can listen to that very carefully by pressing the phase reverse button on your console or on your DAW.
