Choosing drum heads

- Just as there are many drums to choose from, there are also many heads to choose from. Different weights, different coatings, different brands, etc. And so if you choose the right drum but perhaps the wrong head, you're also going to be working against yourself trying to get the ultimate sound. So part of Ross's gig here is to help us choose the right heads on the right drums to get us the best sound. So what are we using today? And can you tell us about how the different weights and coatings will affect the sounds we're gonna get? - Today we're using a clear Powerstroke 3 on the kick drum. And "Coated Ambassadors" by "Remo" on the toms and the snare drum. This is pretty much the go-to head in the studio. - Why is that? - They are not the thinnest, but they are thin enough to still last and have maximum bandwidth. I think they have the most highs and the most lows. They are the right weight to resonate properly with the drum. And over the years, a lot of people have used these. - So…
