- So initially I went with an SM57 on a hi hat, and in this case it's just a little bit too dark. We need it to be present but not harsh. So that it can cut through the guitars and background vocals later, and be an important part of the groove. So we'll change out that 57 for a small diaphragm condenser mic. In this case a KM 84 by Neumann. And I think that's going to help us out a lot for the final sound. - So let me hear that disco beat again there, Joe. - Okay. (music plays) - There it is. Now we hear this little, I've got a little cross-track together now that we've got the whole kit happening. To make it sound more like a record. When we mix we do a lot of parallel compression. I like to track one to tape, so that when we're listening to it against the track we're getting like really punchy kick and snare. Just like we would in the mix, so check it out.
