- What I do next sort of depends on what's happening on the song. If I got a general picture of the kit with these six microphones, I just feel out what's happening. So in this case, the hi-hat's playing a big role in the drum kit, so I think I'm gonna go there next, and see what that brings us. (drum and cymbal beats) The hi-hat is crucial to the groove of this song, and that means that the dynamics, the frequency content, and the volume and placement in the mix are gonna be very important.
