Getting a solid snare to create the character of the track
- Hey Russ, can I get some snare please? The kick drum sounds really good. (snare drum) What I'm looking for in dialing in these sounds on the snare is a balance between attack and body and sustain, the three sort of elements of the snare sound. We need those on the top and the bottom mics. (snare drum) It's got a tiny bit of a ring to it, a little honky ring. - Yup, I hear it out here too. - It sounds big and meaty though, I like it. - Good. (snare drum) - A little better? (snare drum) - Still got a touch of that over tom. (snare drum) - There it is. (snare drum) - We might need to come back to it, it might need a touch more damping. - Okay. - But I want to choke it off. - Okay. (snare drum) How's that? (snare drum) - Yeah, I think for now that will be good. (snare drum) - Hey Russ, can you angle the mic down just a touch for me? - Sure.
