Don't ever criticize a co-writer's suggestion
- At the end of the day co-writing is about trust, and it's about chemistry. These suggestions that I'm about to make are really about ways to avoid compromising that trust, and one of the first things that I would recommend really above and beyond all of the others is under no circumstances are you to ever criticize a co-writer's suggestion. This is the ultimate vibe killer. There's a real vulnerability when you're co-writing in trusting someone with your ideas, and it only takes one comment like, "That sounds stupid," or, "What a bad idea," to kill the good will that should be a big part of this process. Look, this is not to say that you won't hear, and by the way suggest, some kind of dumb things in the process of a co-write it happens all the time, but it's enough for you to simply say, "What if we keep looking," or maybe there's another idea that can say a similar thing, and keep moving forward instead of saying something that's critical or mean spirited.
