- A final piece of advice if I can permit myself to give this to you, is especially if you're early on in your songwriting process and your collaborative process, don't push too hard to collaborate with a more established or successful songwriter. We all know who these people are. If you live in a music city you've heard their songs on the radio, you've met them at music conferences, maybe you even came up with them from when they were nobody. Here's the thing. The unwritten rule that I've observed is that it's better to be asked to co-write by a more established or successful writer than it is to approach them and ask them if they'll write with you. If your personality is such that you cannot wait for that to happen, my recommendation is that you should ask once, ask politely, and don't take it personally if the writer isn't interested or doesn't have the time.
