Rule #20: When in doubt, make your song shorter
- Rule number 20, when in doubt, make your song shorter. I am here to tell you there is no shame in going under three minutes for a song. Get in, tell your story, and get out. Or to use the old showbiz adage, leave 'em wanting more. There's real value in just getting in there, telling your story, and being done. In our song example, Long Long Time, which you can find in your course materials, the entire song is two minutes and 52 seconds. Even better, our Grammy award winning song example, Michelle, by the Beatles, weighs in at a brief and concise two minutes and 42 seconds.
