- If there's one tip that I can give you, about getting a little bit heavier with compression, and that is, using compression in situations where you want to go a little bit further and not just tame things sort of lightly, but maybe push things a little bit, give it a little bit more character. One thing that really helps me a lot is to remember that one compressor doing a lot of work often isn't as musical, as two compressors doing a little bit of work. So what do I mean by this? (air whooshing) let's go to this verse vocal that we have here. And I'm going to get rid of all the compressors on here. (air whooshing) We have some from previous examples. So right now basically, what we've got is some EQ, just a little saturation, a De-esser, and then a final EQ on the end here, just giving us a little bit of extra presence here. (air whooshing) Also a little extra presence in the low mids. So we're going to compress…
