Cultivate outside interests
From the course: One Minute Motivational Tips for Songwriters
Cultivate outside interests
- [Instructor] One of the best ways that I have found over the years to keep myself motivated with my songwriting is to make sure that I am cultivating other interests, things outside of songwriting. Sometimes we can get so wrapped up in something that we're clearly passionate about, meaning our songwriting, that we let all of our other interests whither and fade. And the danger there is that when things aren't going well with your songwriting, you've really got nothing else to fill you up or keep you interested or engaged in your life. So in as much as it is possible, given that your primary passion is most likely your songwriting, try and cultivate outside interests, other things that will ultimately, and this is interesting too, improve your songwriting. Because a well-rounded and interesting life means that your songs will be more interesting.
