Read a book on songwriting
- [Instructor] While a lot of songwriting is based on instinct and musical experience, I would never rule out reading a book or two on the songwriting process. There are some really, really exceptional books about songwriting out there that are well worth a read. I fully understand that songwriting is a personal process and everybody goes about it differently, but why wouldn't you broaden your exposure to different songwriting techniques and exercises? All this to say, look for good songwriting books, get recommendations from friends, and every once in awhile, pick up a book on songwriting and read it. I think you'll be really pleased with the results.
