If writing is important to you, if becoming a better songwriter and a more productive songwriter is a goal, then you have to treat this like you would treat any goal. I understand that as a creative sometimes it feels like you have to wait for inspiration to strike, but my experience has been that you can teach yourself to go out and get inspiration if you are regimented with your schedule. So schedule a time to write as often as you can. And what I think you'll find is that you will end up being able to go out and get inspiration, instead of sitting around and waiting for it to happen.
