- [Instructor] So let's talk tape distortion. Tape saturation and distortion have grown to be beloved by many an engineer and many an artist alike. It's really useful in a lot of different ways. Okay, so one of my favorites that I use all the time is decapitator. And on this A setting we've got, what is an emulation of essentially an Ampex tape distortion which is really cool. So we've got to drive here. Punish is going to push it super hard. It's going to like really thrust that distortion. And then we've got some filters, a tone knob which can be very handy, and then this output and a mix. The mix knob can be really, really handy but I'm using this in a really subtle way. So here's this synthesizer that comes in the third verse. Let's take a listen. (gentle music) Okay, now that's nice and everything, but it's a little too floaty. I don't want a super brighten it.
