Tracking vocals for maximum impact

- [Instructor] There are lot of things that go into a great vocal performance, but what I'd like to talk about is sort of the technological aspects that we have here of really good vocal recording. There are a lot of techniques that you can use in the hardware world. Mostly what I want to talk about is what you want to see on the software end because most of us, these days, are recording to digital. And there's a little bit of confusion out here about what is sort of a good idea, what isn't. So, I just want to tell you what I do, what I find works well to get the vocal performance from the singer's face all the way over to the mix process and how that's going to be simplified. So, the first thing I want to talk about is headroom. Now, for this particular recording I did of an artist called "The Sampa" we were using a pretty nice mic, a Neumann U87, and a nice vintage pre, and a compressor.
