B-roll, roomtone, and MOS

- In this movie, I wanna cover a few areas of sound that many folks never even consider. And while they may seem insignificant, they are not. Let's start with B-roll. B-roll refers to any of the shooting that does not include the main actor or subject. It might be a cutaway of a highway, or a beauty shot, or a shot that illustrates what a character was talking about. Get the idea? Sadly, those B-roll shots are often sonically neglected. If those cutaways don't include at least a little of the sound from the shot, it steals just a tad from the believability of your overall show. When you include sound in the B-roll shot, most of the time, even if it's very low, the picture just feels more alive. To accomplish that, you have two reasonable options, and with both options the first step is simply to consider the sound in your B-roll in the first place.
