- In this movie, we'll take a look at some more microphone options that you might consider when all else fails. If you find yourself here without looking at the other microphone related movies in this course, I'd suggest you start with a movie called Shotguns, and then Lavaliers. They will set you up nicely for this one. On a shoot, they'll be those times when you need to do something out of the ordinary to capture the sound that you want. Maybe you don't have enough crew to use a shotgun on a boom pole, or maybe the lav is picking up too much clothing rustle, or maybe, for what ever reasons, those two choices just won't cut it in the situation you're in. That's why it pays to bring another choice or two. I never go out on set without three microphones, a shotgun on a pole, several lavaliers, with my wireless kits, and then, a simple handheld microphone or two.
