In this movie, we'll look at a concept you absolutely need to understand if you're doing audio on location or in the studio, for that matter. It's called, "signal flow." Signal flow, simply put, is the path of the audio signal from it's source to its destination. Think of a river. Water, like sound, flows from one place to another. You can even split it off into tributaries and send it several places at once. And we are in fact doing that right now. Alyssa, our recordist, is capturing the sound on the recorder, but she's also listening to it on headphones. This is the one concept you need to understand, and when you do understand it, less than three minutes from now, you'll have come a long way toward understanding all audio systems. It's not that complicated. The source of the sound you're hearing right now is my voice coming out of my mouth. I know that's obvious, but bear with me on this.
