Active vs. passive listening

- [Instructor] Before we can understand how to build a great soundtrack, we must first understand how to listen to one. What do I mean? Aren't we all experts on film sound since we've grown up watching and therefore listening to films? It turns out there are different ways of listening. In this movie, we'll explore the concept of active versus passive listening, and we'll take a look at a bunch of tools and concepts that will allow us to listen in a more informed way. Let me pose a question. Is hearing the same as listening? More scientifically speaking, we can talk about this in terms of active versus passive listening. Letting sound wash over you when you take in a movie is our normal state. It's different than thinking objectively about what technical elements are making up the soundtrack and how they are operating.
