- [Instructor] Let's explore the sonic world of film. There's a very important concept at the core of film making, a French phrase, mise en scene, literal translation, place on stage but it's more than that, mise en scene refers to everything in the scene of a film, the location, the set, the props, the actors, light, shadows, everything including sound, and the mark of a truly great film is that the film makers have complete control over all that makes up the mise en scene. It's all working to advance the story-telling, nothing is there by accident. Now, let's frame this idea in the sonic world of a film where as a sound designer you're also given the opportunity to curate and craft each morsel of sound that occurs. Is the sonic world of the film all inclusive, in other words, diegetic or are there sounds appearing outside the world of the world, non-diegetic?
