- [Instructor] What is the common workflow for a soundtrack? While there are always exceptions to the rules, I'd like to walk us through a typical lifespan of sound in a video or film project. We'll follow the workflow of sound starting with the production and through the post-production stage all the way to exhibition. We start with location sound. This is the sound that's captured on the set as principle filming occurs. It includes all the sound recorded on the set or the location and most importantly, principle dialogue. But it's also important for sound recordists to capture everything that they can on the set or location. This includes ambiences, tones, wild sounds, things that are just happening in the environment. And when they're done they'll want to catalog and archive everything by scene and take number, so it can be retrieved later by the post-production team. Next we have the picture editing stage.
