- [Instructor] What's in store for the future of audio for visual media? Well for one, it largely involves the advancement of 3D, spatialized, surround and immersive audio. Are all of these the same thing? Well there's a lot of terms and a lot of confusion. Let's take a second to understand the core concepts of what we mean when we say immersive audio. The concept of moving a sound around in space isn't new. As we've discovered, it's been going on since the 1930s. Technology has now caught up to the point where along with the incredible leaps and bounds in visual effect and visual 3D technology, we need sound to also move around in space and envelope the listener as well. Here's what the challenge is. You have your listener in a room. One way to approach surround sound is to direct sound to specific speakers in the room.
