Create an alignment from objects

- [Instructor] Alignments define the horizontal geometry for linear design such as roads, channels or pipelines. Let's begin by looking at how alignments are defined from other objects already in the drawing. To get started I'll go to the alignment dropdown on the home tab and select create alignment from objects. You'll notice on the command line that I can pick lines, arcs, polylines or any of those objects from an Xref if I choose. For this first example I'll select this green polyline and press Enter. Notice that Civil 3D brings up a white arrow that indicates the current assumed direction of the alignment. That's going to control the direction in which the stations increase when I station the alignment. If I like the way it is now I can press Enter or I can click reverse or type R for reverse to reverse the direction. I'm going to press Enter because that is the direction I want to use.
