Data shortcut vs. external reference

- [Narrator] One of the greatest capabilities of Civil 3D, is it's ability to share data between team members. Let's explore two of the ways you can do that data shortcuts and external references. Before we get into this video, we need to do a little housekeeping with Civil 3D. First, make sure that prospector is open. Find the data shortcuts node, right click it and pick set working folder. Browse to your exercise files directory and select the 12_O1 folder. Then right click data shortcuts again, and pick set data shortcuts project folder. Select where it says data shortcuts folder, and click okay. Now that that's set up, let's talk about data shortcuts and external references or xrefs. We'll start with xrefs first, 'cause you may already be familiar with those, since that's something that AutoCAD can do. To illustrate this, I'm going to type in the word xref, xref and press enter.
