- [Instructor] Throughout this chapter you've been learning how to perform grading using objects like feature lines and grading objects to build up your design one part at a time. What if there was a way to enter some simple parameters and have Civil 3D figure out the entire design for you? That's what grading optimization is all about. And I'm going to give you an introduction to this feature in this video. So let's say we want to develop this area of our project as some commercial space. We've got a large building here, a flat area for parking, a pond in the back corner at the low end of the site and then this red outline represents the grading limit. Where we want to tie into existing ground. What if we could just define those areas using basic parameters and let Civil 3D take care of the rest.
