Understanding grading objects

- [Instructor] Now it's time to learn about the second important object type that you'll use for grading in Civil 3D, the grading object. In the previous few videos, you created an edited feature lines, but you had to pretty much tell the feature lines what to do. What if there was a way for you to have Civil 3D totally calculate and create feature lines for you? That's what grading objects do. All grading objects start with a feature line. For example in this pond design right here, it all started with this green feature line, representing the inside of the rim. Now from that feature line, you project a slope or a grade until it reaches a target like a distance, an elevation, an elevation change, or even a surface. At the end of this projection, Civil 3D calculates and creates a new feature line. For example from the outside edge of the pond rim, we projected a three to one slope until it intersected with the existing…
