- [Instructor] Traverses are used to ensure the accuracy of the field located data. Let's create a traverse in Civil 3D. I'll start by creating a survey database. And I'll just right click that New Local Survey Database. And I'll just call this survey1. You can name it whatever you like. The next thing I'll do is set up some of our measurement settings. So I'm going to right click survey1 and pick edit survey database settings. I'm going to scroll down to my measurement type defaults, and angle type is good at angle. For distance type, I want to choose horizontal. And for vertical and target type, I'm going to choose none. I also want to make sure for this example that my units are set to US Foot. With that, I can click OK. And I'm ready to do the next step which is to create a network. I'll simply right click network and pick new.
