Trimming and extending
The trim and extend commands perform opposite functions. In this video, you will use them both. Open the rooms sample file, and draw a line across both of the rooms, like this. Turn off ortho, so that you can draw a diagonal line. Now, let's locate trim and extend. They're located right here on this fly out. Choose trim. It starts with a select object's prompt, or you can optionally select all the objects in the drawing. And I'll explain why you'd want to do that in a moment. But for now, let's select this object and then press enter. The next step is to select the object to trim. Or you can shift+select to use the extend command. I'm going to click right here, and that will trim off this part of the line. Now I can press enter or escape to finish the command. Let's try it again. Press Enter to repeat the command, and this time press Enter again to select all the objects in the drawing. This provides us with many different potential cutting edges.
