- [Narrator] As I've mentioned, AutoCAD for MAC was not just a ported version of AutoCAD. It was completely rewritten to take advantage of things like Cocoa, one of MAC oS 10's native programming languages. From my understanding, this means there are two hurdles to contend with. One, AutoCAD for Windows has over 30 years of programming wrapped up in it, features added, tools created, and so forth. By rewriting the application from scratch there are limits on the amount of tools that can be added in one fell swoop. AutoCAD for Mac has grown leaps and bounds over the past six years to catch up to AutoCAD for Windows. The second hurdle is that in 30 years of programming, AutoDesk stopped developing for Apple computers around 1994. So, for 17 years, they only developed AutoCAD to run on Windows.
