Connecting to raster surfaces

- [Instructor] Raster services, also known as elevation models, store the 3D coordinates of a surface on the earth. These surfaces can be added and combined to a single layer. Adding a surface to the map will be best viewed in 3D mode, and will automatically drape all the vector-based GIS layers over it. Let's add a DEM now. So let's click on Data, Connect to Data, pick on Add Raster Image or Surface Connection. We're just going to call this guelph.dem, 'cause that's the area we're in. We're not going to browse to a single file, it's actually made up of four files, so we're going to browse to a folder. We're going to pick on the DEM folder and click Connect. We have four DEM. We have a GUELPH_SOUTHEAST, SOUTHWEST, WEST, and EAST. We're going to check them all, and we're going to combine them into one layer. We're going to call it GUELPH DEM. And then we're going to click Add to Map. We'll close the Data Connect…
