Gross external area (GEA)

- [Voiceover] Something else you would work with when you're working with your areas and your polylines is what they call the Gross External Area, or GEA. That is the outer edge of the building as you go 'round the building. Now, the gross external area is normally a polyline that you take all the way around your building. Now, you would have a separate layer for this, and what you would do is go to the Home tab on the ribbon, go to your Layers panel right here, go to Layer Properties, and you can see that we've got the FM Room Polylines layer there. What I would do is just click on New Layer, and it adopts the properties of the FM Room Polylines layer because that's the current layer. So we have FM now, and I would just put a dash and maybe put GEA, gross external area, like that. Give it a different color though, that's what I would do. So change the color of the layer, maybe make it a green color, something like that, something that stands out on the dark background. Doesn't have…
