Importing GIS data

- [Instructor] Importing GIS data converts the various industry standard formats directly into AutoCAD objects. Most GIS data has a rich set of attributes attached, so to maintain this, we store the attributes in object data. Once we import the data, the original data's no longer necessary or used. Although, AutoCAD Map can use most GIS formats, in fact, you can drag and drop a shape file and edit it natively. In this session, we're going to show you how to import that shape file and have it turn into AutoCAD objects. Let's do that now. First we choose the Insert ribbon, and click under Import, Map Import. Let's browse for the shape file that we want, which is in chapter six, and files of type, we have a lot of choices. We have ASCII Point Files, text files, Autodesk SDF, GML, Shapefiles, Mapinfo, MicroStation, and so on. Let's choose, ESRI Shapefile. We're going to choose GUELPH_TRAILS and click OK. In the dialog…
