Importing GIS data

- [Instructor] Importing GIS data converts the various industry standard formats directly into an AutoCAD object. Most GIS data has a rich set of attributes attached. So to maintain this, we would store those attributes in the object data. Once we import the data, the original data is no longer necessary or used, so you don't need that anymore. In this case, we're going to import a SHP file. So let's do that. If we go Insert, and then we go under Import, the Map Import, the command is actually Map Import, you'll see that at the command line. Now under Files of type, we can look underneath and see all the different type of GIS files we can import. ASCII files, so they could be exported from a GPS machine. We've got SDF, which is used in MapGuide and other formats, CityGML, really old type, Esri ArcInfo Export.
